Manufacturers:
JigBoxx carries jigsaw puzzles from these important manufacturers:
Educa Borras (ED): This fine company, already the best puzzle company in the Hispanic
world, perhaps should be considered also the premier puzzle manufacturer in the world today.
Their choice of images is always in the best of taste and their quality of production is
unsurpassed. Educa has a strong interest in the educational possibilities of the puzzle medium.
Educa surprises puzzle enthusiasts year after year with innovative new products and it does not
shy away from taking risks in the marketplace. All Educa puzzles are supported by Educa's
"Lost Pieces" service -- any piece lost while assembling the puzzle will be replaced free
of charge and there are full instructions on how to identify the lost piece for replacement.
All Educa puzzles come with a small cardboard stand to hold up the box lid at an optimum angle.
All Educa puzzles come with one or more free pouches of powdered puzzle glue so that the finished
puzzle can be glued together and hung on the wall.
Jeux Nathan (NT): This venerable old French company is known for the high quality
of its puzzles and even better known for the beauty of its art images. The books on
art and art history by Fernand Nathan can be found in every public library all over
the world. Nathan produces several very large puzzles (3000+ pcs) suitable for group
puzzle projects. Nathan also has a line of deluxe metallic foil puzzles much sought after
by puzzle connoisseurs.
Ricordi Arte (AG): This Italian company has been in the business
of printing fine art reproductions since 1808. Recently, they turned their attention
to fine art jigsaw puzzles and have created a wonderful variety of high quality puzzles
featuring mostly European art images and some art photography. A tour through their puzzle
catalogue is like a walk through the Louvre: da Vinci, Michelangelo, Raphael, Van Gogh,
Gauguin, Klimt, Dali, Picasso, Kandinsky, Lempicka, Munch, Cezanne, Monet. From frescoes
of Roman time found preserved in Pompeii to living artists of the avant-garde at the close
of this millennium, the puzzles of Nuova Arti Grafiche Ricordi encompass the whole of art
history.
Spilsbury (SP): This fairly new American manufacturer is named for the British
inventor of the jigsaw puzzle in the eighteenth century, John Spilsbury. They have
a small line of puzzles which includes some very good contemporary artist collections,
but is probably most notable for use of unusual shapes in puzzles -- teapots, cockleshells,
leaves, flowers and other objects.
SunsOut (SU): This very successful American manufacturer focusses exclusively on known
contemporary artists in the fantasy genre and pop culture icons for its jigsaw puzzles.
Additionally, there are some puzzles designed with an educational bent which are object
collages, where the challenge is to find a certain number of hidden objects or messages
in the artwork.
Trefl (TR): This upstart Polish company is carving out a name for itself in producing
puzzles of above average quality at much below average costs. We look forward to an increasing
variety of images from Trefl as they develop their product line. Their strong suit just now
is in landmarks of Eastern Europe -- castles, lonely churches, palaces and old cities.
Wrebbit (WR): Surely the most innovative puzzle maker in the world today, this Canadian
company in Montreal invented the three dimensional puzzle (Puzz-3Dtm) and made it
famous all over the world. All Wrebbit puzzles are printed on foamcore backing. This sturdy yet
flexible material gives support to puzzle structures up to 150cm in height, while still allowing
the user to wrestle with the pieces, sometimes aggressively, in assembling it.
