![]() The Hunters in the Snow by Pieter Bruegel the Elder 2000-pc jigsaw puzzle for US$ 40.00 One in a series of six panels illustrating the months of the year, this scene represents December and January. We also have "The Harvesters" (August/September) in the same size and from the same manufacturer, but one of the six panels (for April/May) is lost to history. What a wonderful view of the world of this village in sixteenth century Holland! The hunters and their pack of dogs are crossing the height of land and approaching the valley below. Black ravens and magpies hover nearby, perhaps anticipating the chance of a feast. We see the frozen canals and ponds and the people skating and playing about on them, but we are too far away yet to identify the game. The labours of the year are at an end and at last the people have time to play, but still the hunters must venture forth to find meat for the table.
