This picturesque mediaeval town, rich in artistic buildings, is much appreciated by tourists for its wonderful landscapes, which fascinated Behrens. Built on a rocky promontory, in the shade of a craggy hill from which one can see the silhouette of the ancient castle, Varenna seems to float on the crystalline waters of the lake.
